Ares to appoint new principal for Asia direct lending
Alternative investment manager Ares has appointed James Garforth as principal in its Asia direct lending business, according to Reuters who first broke the news.
An Ares company spokesperson confirmed to the newswire that Garforth will be based out of Hong Kong.

According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, Gareth will report to Peter Graf, partner and Ares’ head of Asia direct lending.

Garforth is set to join from BGH Capital in Melbourne, where he has led the firm’s capital markets business since July 2023, his LinkedIn profile shows. Previously, Garforth also worked at KKR’s capital markets division in Sydney and spent the first decade of his career at Credit Suisse’s leveraged finance division, being based in both Sydney and New York.
Garforth holds a bachelor’s of commerce and economics from the University of Queensland.
