Sound Point hires Faris AbiNader as CRE credit strategy grows
Sound Point Capital Management has appointed Faris AbiNader as head of real estate capital formation.
The alternative asset manager stated that AbiNader will focus on institutional capital formation for its commercial real estate (CRE) credit business.
AbiNader has joined the firm amid significant momentum in its CRE credit business, which has grown through additional institutional mandates, including those on behalf of strategic insurance partners, Sound Point said.
“As the platform continues to scale, Faris brings deep relationships and significant experience that will help us broaden our institutional investor base while staying true to the investment approach that has driven the business,” said Don MacKinnon, head of CRE credit and portfolio manager at Sound Point.

Sound Point’s CRE platform has originated approximately $4.3bn (£3.2bn) across 167 first-mortgage loans and focuses primarily on originating senior, first-lien mortgages secured by middle-market real estate. The manager focuses particularly on multifamily and industrial properties in select US markets.
AbiNader joins Sound Point from Cerberus Capital Management, where he was managing director and represented the firm’s residential investment platform.
“Sound Point has built a differentiated commercial real estate credit business with an experienced investment team, disciplined underwriting approach, and strong institutional partnerships,” said AbiNader. “At a time when investors are increasingly focused on opportunities in real estate credit, the platform’s scale, track record and origination capabilities provide a strong foundation for continued growth.”
