Fintech to democratise alternatives raises £2.2m in seed funding
Fintech startup Ctrl Alt has raised £2.2m in seed funding from venture capital investors.
Based in London and Dundalk, Ireland, Ctrl Alt is a player in the democratisation of alternative assets, which have been traditionally dominated by institutional investors. The firm aims to ease access to alternative assets for individual investors by using fractional investing. This means that individuals can invest in shares that are represented as tokens, which are classified as security tokens by the regulator.
The firm was set up in 2020 by former Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse executives Matt Ong and Jordan McMullen. It offers investments across alternatives including real estate and renewable energy. Its platform was launched at the end of 2022.
The seed round was led by Forward Partners and MiddleGame Ventures. They were joined by Entreprise Ireland, Algorand Foundation, 365.fintech, SyndicateRoom and a number of angel investors.

Many asset managers have been working to democratise alternative assets in recent years, with some launching dedicated funds and others going through platforms like Ctrl Alt to broaden access to their propositions.
For investors, a lot of alternative assets, such as private credit, have been traditionally out of reach due to their high minimums and illiquidity.
