Zopa appoints mobile fintech expert as CTO
Zopa has named Andrew Hawkins as its new chief technology officer.
He replaces Ronen Benchetrit, who has joined dating app Bumble as chief technology officer.
Hawkins has been described as a “startup entrepreneur and mobile technology expert” with more than 20 years’ experience in product leadership and fintech roles.
He was founder and chief executive of mobile technology agency Umee, and chief product and technology officer at mobile payments company PepperHQ. Most recently, he was global chief technology officer of digital channels at HSBC, where he helped to improve the bank’s mobile banking experience.
His appointment came four months after Zopa won its full banking license, and the lender has hinted that new product launches are underway.

“Joining Zopa at this time is hugely exciting,” Hawkins said.
“Gaining its bank license earlier in the year was the start of a new journey for the company and it’s an honour to be part of it. Tech sits at the heart of what Zopa does and is key to providing customers with differentiated financial products that are great value and easy to use.
“I look forward to continuing to innovate and to scaling Zopa’s great products to more customers.”
Jaidev Janardana, chief executive of Zopa, said: “2020 has been a pivotal year in Zopa’s history.
“Gaining our full bank license this year has made it possible for us to launch more products that customers love and which help them get the most out of their money.
“We’re delighted to welcome Andrew to the team as we continue to grow and realise our ambition of being the UK’s best place for money.”
