Landlords urged to prepare for green homes grants before they run out
Landlords are being urged to get prepared to apply for energy efficiency grants, which are set to launch in September.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak unveiled a new grant scheme for home owners and landlords to make their homes more energy efficient during his summer economic update.
A property must already have a minimum energy performance rating of E for a landlord to rent it out and tax advisers at Blick Rothenberg are warning of a surge of applications once the green home grants worth up to £5,000 are launched.

“The applications for the grant will open in just over a months’ time so buy-to-let landlords need to assess their properties now and get their applications in as fast as possible because thousands of people will apply,” Heather Powell, property partner at Blick Rothenberg, said.
“It is also likely that the government will tighten energy efficiency regulations still further in 2021, making these works essential for many rental properties.”

She added that given the grant funding announced was only for one year, so it is important that landlords start reviewing their housing, and assessing what work should be done that is eligible for the grant, so that that they can apply quickly.
