Canyon Partners names new co-head of private credit
Texas-based global alternative investment manager Canyon Partners has appointed Davide Amico as its new co-head of private credit, amid a senior staff restructuring.
Amico has been with the firm for 14 years, and was previously head of Europe. He will work alongside Scott Borenstein as co-heads of the private credit division. Amico replaces Jeff Kivitz, who has been promoted to chief investment officer at Canyon. Todd Lemkin, the firm’s former chief investment officer, has left the firm after 21 years.

Furthermore, Jonathan Barzideh and Chaney Sheffield, partners who have been at Canyon for 17 and 16 years, respectively, have been named co-heads of opportunistic credit.
Meanwhile, Andy Ray, the firm’s chief strategy officer, has been elevated to president. Randy Ko, a managing director and Canyon’s head of sustainable investing, will assume the role of chief strategy officer.
“2024 has been a transformational year for Canyon, from strategically important product launches to our GP/LP partnership with Dai-ichi Life, among other milestones,” said Josh Friedman and Mitch Julis, Canyon’s co-founders and co-chief executives.

“As we look ahead, we recognize the opportunity to further empower many of the talented leaders who have set the foundation for our success today and who will be of paramount importance to achieving our long-term vision for Canyon.
“While our roles leading the firm are not changing, we are fully backed by the support of a deeper bench of proven senior leaders who are well-positioned to assume progressively more responsibility.”
Canyon saw more than $3bn (£2.36bn) of gross inflows and commitments this year, which were largely driven by the company’s private market platform. Over the past several months, Canyon has hired managing directors from Apollo, Sixth Street, Barings, and Varde, and it expects to make additional senior hires in the new year.
