FCA boosts ESG and technology knowhow with three new recruits
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced three new recruits to boost its sustainability and technology credentials.
The City watchdog has appointed Sacha Sadan as director of environment, social and governance (ESG), Ian Alderton as chief information officer and Ian Phoenix as director of its intelligence and digital division.
Sadan will lead the development of the FCA’s ESG policy and joins from Legal and General Investment Management where he was director of investment stewardship.
It comes as helping the UK to its target of net zero carbon emissions was added to the FCA’s remit in the March Budget.
“Throughout my career as an asset owner, fund manager and global stewardship director I’ve focused on the protection of consumer interests and responsible capitalism,” Sadan said.
“I look forward to using my experience to help pursue these key objectives at the FCA.”

The appointments of Alderton and Phoenix will help the City watchdog as it looks to become more data-led in its decisions.
Alderton had already joined the FCA on a temporary basis in January and his role has been made permanent.
Phoenix was most recently director of citizens’ health technology at NHS Digital where he helped lead its response to the pandemic.
He will lead the enhancement of the FCA’s intelligence and surveillance capabilities, as well as its digital work to disrupt harmful online activity.
