Fintech Week 2017 set to showcase the UK’s strengths
FINTECH Week 2017 will take place in April, with the aim of attracting more international investment into the sector, the chancellor has announced.
The UK government and fintech trade body Innovate Finance are working together to deliver the second annual UK Fintech Week, which will take place in London from 10 to 13 April.
The Treasury said on Sunday that the event is designed to bring together industry, government and regulators to focus on the issues affecting the sector, including investment, access to skills and business support to start-ups.

Chancellor Philip Hammond (pictured) will be joined by Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, City minister Simon Kirby and other industry voices, the Treasury said.
Fintech Week will include Innovate Finance’s global summit on 10-11 April, the government’s first international fintech conference on 12 April and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)’s international innovate seminar on 12 April.
Hammond and Carney will be making keynote speeches at the government’s fintech conference.

“The fintech sector is one of our fastest growing sectors, adding more than £6.6bn into the UK’s economy and attracting more than £500m of investment,” said Hammond.
“Fintech Week 2017 is an opportunity for Britain to build on these successes and attract further investment in our world-leading sector, ensuring we remain at the cutting edge of financial innovation.”
“The UK is already the best place in the world to start, grow and scale a fintech company thanks to our strong financial services heritage, leadership in digital technology, strong investment landscape and progressive and innovative regulators,” said Eileen Burbidge, the Treasury’s special envoy for fintech.
“This second annual UK Fintech Week will showcase all of the many strengths of the UK, and highlight the reasons why even more entrepreneurs and investors should look to the UK for value creation and market opportunities.”

“The UK has developed a blueprint for the best fintech ecosystem in the world through progressive government policy, an innovative regulator, and a global pool of fintech talent that is the envy of the world,” said Lawrence Wintermeyer, chief executive of Innovate Finance.
“We have invited the world to the UK in April to showcase our community and share with entrepreneurs and investors why this is the place to do fintech.”
Further events taking place on 13 April will be announced nearer the time.
